Barbara Grote

Barbara Grote, MPA, Ph.D. is an executive coach, consulting and licensed clinical psychologist, organization consultant, and a principal of the Cascadia Group. She has worked as a human resource executive in the private and public sectors and has established her own business.

Barbara specializes in executive coaching for high potential and at-risk managers and executives, and in organizational assessment, consulting, and meeting facilitation. Her experience includes extensive executive coaching for leadership development, organizational assessment and troubleshooting, succession planning, management and leadership training, mediation, and counseling.

Barbara has a twenty five year track record as a successful human resources professional. She served as Vice President of Human Resources for the Ultrasound Division of Siemens Medical Systems, the Director of Training and Development for the Bay Area Urban League, and Program Evaluator for a Bay Area city. As the first U.S. employee of Siemens Ultrasound Division, she grew the organization to 3000 employees, including navigating start up issues, putting policies and systems in place as the organization matured, and handling organizational and strategic issues involved in acquisitions and outsourcing.

As an organizational development consultant, Barbara has coached executives and high potential managers across the United States, facilitated 360 feedback for over 150 managers, planned and executed management and leadership trainings, orchestrated the succession planning and development process, and headed a U.S.-wide diversity initiative. In addition to her work with the Cascadia Group, Barbara is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Seattle. Her clients include entrepreneurs, managers, and professional from a wide range of businesses.

Barbara graduated from Pacifica Graduate Institute with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Her dissertation on the experience of feeling understood in psychotherapy serves her well in organizational work-both in understanding her clients and in helping them understand the people with whom they work. Barbara holds a B.A. in Psychology from U.C. Berkeley and a Master's in Public Administration from the Consortium of California State Colleges and Universities, with a specialty in employment and training. She is a licensed Psychologist in the State of Washington.
